Growing up as one of five, raised by immigrant parents with humble beginnings. Instilled in us were a set of values beginning with commitment, respect, honesty and hard work. At a time when character defined you and you grew through your opportunity, we were guided by experience with those before us. With this foundation, I learned to believe in myself while having the courage to follow my heart and intuition.
"It takes nothing to join the crowd, but it takes everything to stand alone."
To be different is to make a difference. Recognize adversity, without it, we will not gain wisdom, build strength, or experience personal growth. In my 37th year of my craft, (27th as a salon owner), I remain dedicated and passionate about making a difference, as a person and as a hairstylist. I draw inspiration from everything around me, whether it be art, music, fashion, architecture or one's uniqueness. It is said, we all have a purpose. Though through my profession, I detained my purpose by creating change. Realizing we had the ability to impact someone by simply changing their hair and making them feel good about themselves. That goes beyond my hands and vision. As I come full circle, derived from my personalized license plate. Stylist had too many letters, then became "Stylus". Fast forward 10 years, Stylus & Co. was founded December 3, 1988. Sometime later learning stylus was a word with an actual meaning. Today I am totally where I am meant to be. Defined in the name and the company I am surrounded by. I am humbled and grateful for those who have supported, taught, inspired and shared their life experience. Always seek more.
In 37 years of hairstyling, I have found that my profession is truly my life's passion. I have continued to attend countless classes locally, nationally, and internationally so that I am at the forefront of my industry. I gather my inspirtations from art, music, fashion, architecture, my surroundings, and most importantly... you, my client, and your uniqueness. As a stylist, I believe we can impact someone's life through artistry and an open heart. My mantra is "always seek more", and through Stylus and Company I can make that happen. Stylus is an insturment to create and that is exactly what I do, I create.
As a massage therapist of 10 years I still enjoy the feeling of helping people. When you hear that your client hasn't felt this good in a long time, it makes it all worth while. I have two jobs and hard work is no stranger to me. My daughter is my inspiration to continue to keep working hard. The relationships I have with my clients I treasure. I'm confident in what I know and have learned over the years. I've been surrounded with the positive people that push me to be better, "Thank you to Mary and Lupe". Come see me and you won't be disappointed!
